Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom என்ற ஆங்கில ஹைக்கூ நூலிற்கு முதுமுனைவர வெ.இறையன்பு இ .ஆ .ப .அவர்கள் வழங்கிய அணிந்துரை DR V IRAI ANBU Shobana House 23/9 Second Main Road Indira Nagar Chennai 600020 Date: 23-01-2026 MESSAGE Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom is a collection of one thousand haiku poems written by Thiru Ravi, a well-known vernacular poet from Tamil Nadu. Ravi is renowned for his rationalism and revolutionary ideas that promote social awareness, social justice, and resistance to outdated superstitions. His poems act as crusades against blind beliefs and unnecessary social customs that divide human beings on the basis of caste, creed, and religion. Thiru Ravi is also a distinguished public speaker and actively participates in literary events across Tamil Nadu. His haiku poems have been published in several leading journals and popular Tamil magazines. Many of his poems are strikingly unique for their fervent call for transformation in social consciousness. His agnostic outlook is reflected in numerous verses that strike at superficial traditions devoid of rhyme or reason. Reading his poems kindles thought and encourages mindful contemplation, as they envision a profound change in our thinking process. He is uncompromising in attacking exploitation perpetrated by politicians who seek pecuniary gain by deceiving the innocent. Ravi also appears to be a pantheist, admiring resplendent nature and portraying it in his poems through a distinctly original perspective. His verses on the firmament, stars, rainbows, and rain can be relished by all who observe existence with awe and wonder. Ravi emphatically highlights the importance of virtues in his poetry. His poems explore several themes, including the psychology of children. They are not mere word paintings; rather, they reflect the intrinsic nature of human behaviour and its far-reaching ramifications. The English translation of his thousand poems, entitled Let a Thousand Flowers Blossom, has been rendered with great nuance by the eminent scholar and author of historical works, Prof. Dr. Bernard Shaw. This collection will enable readers who cherish haiku poetry in the English language to understand and appreciate Ravi’s mind and his dedication to espousing the cause of the underprivileged. I am confident that this collection will be well received by readers, and I wish Thiru Ravi every success in his future endeavours. (V IRAI ANBU)
